the Kii, Yung Fume and Elijah Malik connect to “Flip The Switch”

The duo of Berlin-based Jan Lilienthal and Michael Nowatzky, otherwise known as the Kii, are fast becoming hip-hop’s next monumental production powerhouse, and in a similar fashion to Take a Daytrip, are both collaborating and showcasing some of the world’s best up-and-coming talents as they go. While their singles that boast the likes of Kelvyn Colt, SIIMBA SELASSIIE, and Kyle Bent are still catching ears and turning heads across the musical landscape, their stratospheric trajectory forges ahead with the rapturous and swaggering “Flip The Switch.”

Connecting with artists that wholly suit their distinct, yet ever-fluctuating sound rather than clout alone, this time around they unite with the strong talents of Yung Fume and Elijah Malik, which sees their digitally globe-trotting mission visit South London and San Francisco respectively. Having worked with Malik earlier this year on their previous single “Xmen,” they struck up a clear synergy that continues with an entirely different shade of both of their sounds. Speaking to their connection in an email statement, the Kii outline that, “We are just enormous fans of Elijah’s work. He is constantly developing, from week to week he learns and adapts new styles. We can’t wait to release more music with him in the near future!”

Never ones to rely on sample-heavy productions, much of their unparalleled sound is garnered by their background as multi-instrumentalists. Warping their original recordings into crisp and envelope-pushing productions, they achieve an ahead-of-the-curve take on contemporary hip-hop, swathed in their uniquely anti-cookie cutter approach. Opening with a dusty guitar loop, the mildly disjointed arpeggiated melodies offset the rapidly applied beat with a heady, chest-knocking rhythm. Yung Fume’s highly melodious flow further elevates and soars atop, delivered with such dutiful and bolshie confidence, that the beat maintains to not pull focus. Taking cues from the previous verse, Malik’s slick bars match that same energy, pushing the rhythms and flow in fresh directions, without deviating from the masterfully simplistic aesthetic.

With four standout singles under their belt in eight short months, expect big things from their debut project later this year.

Ever since his divorce from Kim Kardashian became public, Kanye West has been keeping a very low profile and moving in the shadows, but would he come out of hiding to pay homage to DMX?

Page Six is reporting that Swizz Beatz is hoping that to be the case as he’s reaching out to the “Jesus Walks” rapper to gauge his interest in performing at a memorial service for the dearly departed, Dark Man X. While it seems like a strange request being that X and Ye don’t really have a history of a working relationship, the two men were men of God (X seemingly much more than Kanye), and DMX even delivered a prayer at one of Kanye’s Sunday Services back in 2019.

The moment was captured and shared by Ye’s then wife, Kim Kardashian.

“I wouldn’t call it a church service. There’s no word,” Simmons later told GQ of the experience, “It’s joyful, which God says to do. We about to make a joyful noise. I enjoyed it. It was moving. I didn’t know what to expect, though.”

The memorial service for DMX is set to be held at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn on April 24th. While it will not be a public event due to COVID-19, we do expect to see many of our favorite rappers from Hip-Hop’s golden era in attendance. The question is, will Kanye West be joining them come Saturday? Will he perform for his fellow God-fearing rapper?

Guess we’ll have to wait to find out.

Swizz Beatz’s people declined to comment.

Machine Gun Kelly Debuts Slashed Neck Tattoo

Machine Gun Kelly

Machine Gun Kelly is adding some bloody new ink to his body.

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, the “Bloody Valentine” rapper revealed his latest tattoo of a red slash that goes down his throat and over his Adam’s apple. “bye bye neck,” he captioned the pics.

He also shared video of himself going under the needle. “If anyone ever liked my neck, it’s gonna look different,” warned MGK, who will celebrate his 31st birthday on Thursday (April 22).

The post received over 1 million likes from fans, who thought the slit was real. “Thought that was a legit slice in ur neck,” wrote one, while another added, “I almost had a heart attack thinking it was a real scar.”

The jarring new tat sits above a tattoo with the name of his latest album, Tickets to My Downfall. His body is covered in other tats including one that says North 71, representing the interstate in his hometown of Cleveland, while his back is inked with Salvador Dali’s masterpiece, The Temptation of St. Anthony.

MGK’s bloody fixation continues. Back in February, he showed off an orb necklace appearing to contain a drop of his girlfriend Megan Fox’s blood.
